Hazel Catkins
No woodland forays for me today - just a 4.5 mile plod up and down the cycle/foot path come bridleway…957 miles completed so far this year! 40 days left to do another 43 miles…
I was hoping there may be some new fungi…but I didn’t see any!
I did notice a lot of these hazel catkins in the hedgerows. They appear to be on ‘schedule’ despite the vagaries of the weather! They normally appear in October / November as the leaves fall away and in the spring they will grow and mature. These are the male flowers - no sign of the bright red female flowers yet.
I managed to isolate this little group and get them with some nice coloured leaf litter in the background…
