Rewilding the garden

Not a hard task considering it's already pretty wild. When we came here 29 years ago the  place had been unoccupied for a few years and the previous owners' make-over had all but vanished. The grass was knee-high and the greenhouse lost in a bramble patch. For a while,  regular lawn-mowing, weeding and ground clearance got the better of the wilderness but over the past few years the balance has shifted in favour of nature again. Ivy creeps up the trees and nettles sprout in neglected corners. Oh well, que sera sera -  just call it environmental friendliness.

So I was delighted to find  a sizeable cluster of (edible) wood blewit mushrooms growing under the old apple tree. The soft violet of their gills reminds me of the colour of my fingers on colder days. They aren't the only fungi to be found here either: there are parasols on the compost heap, dryads' saddles on the dying ash trees,  and waxcaps on the lawn grassy area, to mention but a few. The garden is wilding well.
