Golden Dragon
Identification - Pantala flavescens.
Of all the dragons that I see, this one is the hardest to photograph and it is probably the most common too. The reason that it is difficult to capture, is that it spends all the daylight hours on the wing in great clouds of hundreds. A very impressive sight, a bit disturbing too, having monster size insects flying around your head, until you realize that dragons are completely harmless.
I got a shot at a very large wasp today, I would estimate approaching 1.5" long. Unfortunately, I could not get close and the one shot that I had did not come up to standard, so you will have to put up with this stunning creature.
