Thanksgiving 2023

A beautiful, warm, clear sunny day for Thanksgiving, our guest in the USA. We had a good walk in the morning around Discovery Lake and up towards Double Peak to the south of San Marcos where the views over the city and the hills beyond were extensive as shown in the extra.

I’ve tried to learn about the geology and landscape of San Marcos and the surrounding area. The city sits in a valley between ranges of hills which I’d like to know more about.

It was an afternoon and evening of mostly fun and games outside and inside. Landon had this keyboard for his birthday. He has a go at the online lesson but preserves to bash the keys. I got my the uke out and we had a bit of jazzy improvisation.

I cooked a Thanksgiving dinner, with ham instead of turkey. When we went shopping yesterday the fresh birds were too big for 4 and the frozen birds would not have defrosted in time.

Landon helped to make cornbread muffins. Some of the packed mix was used to make gravy as we had no flour. The addition of stuffing mix and chicken stock made a very passable gravy! Roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, cabbage and stuffing accompanied the ham.

The joint of ham was so large we appear to have more left than we started with!
