Beware of trains

It’s okay! This train is going nowhere. It isn’t even a real train. But it’s great to sit inside (see extra) and enjoy a freshly cooked breakfast and one can pretend that one is on the Cockermouth, Keswick, Penrith railway, having just skirted the edge of Bassenthwaite with great views of Skiddaw.

Sadly it’s all make-believe, as the line was closed by some bright person in 1966. The station was closed and sold off and eventually the A66 was built along the route of the old track. After many years of neglect, the station was bought by an enterprising couple who turned the station into a cafe. Needing more space, they looked for a train carriage and this turned into selling their home in order to buy this replica train from the filmset of Murder on the Orient Express

It is now a popular cafe and we can see why. The food is great.

There is a wildlife pond and hide and it is across the road from Dubwath Silver Meadows Wetland Nature Reserve.
