Bridge - reflected - After Iain.
This will be the final Rail Bridge shot from me ( I hope). I had thought I'd done it, but after the sad news of Iain Banks' death just over a week ago, I've been wanting to come back, but felt I should stay away with my cameras until a little time had passed.
This project, is in part inspired by Iain. As I've said before, I sat in my old house, looking out my window at the bridges for nigh on 4 years, some of it spent reading his book The Bridge. It was profound enough as a story, but it impacted on me heavily in the bridges', and his, presence. It has never really faded.
I then read The Wasp Factory, his first success, and was quite blown away by it. Not least because he'd written it while living in Portmahomack, not 5 miles away from where I grew up. The landscape he set it in, was so recognisable as my own, so well described, that it brought on serious pangs of homesickness, despite the nature of the story being told.
Everything of his that I've read, has made an indelible mark on me, and I'm grateful for it. So this one is for Iain and it is my last Rail Bridge shot. RIP Iain.
