Lunar Halo
Taken at just after 10pm this evening. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one this large or this clear before.
Space.com says that this is ‘caused by the refraction of moonlight from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.’
It also says that….’the effect is so striking that it has given rise to a wealth of folklore and superstition, and was used not entirely unsuccessfully used to predict the onset of bad weather.’
Well, we are supposed to get more rain tomorrow evening, so maybe there’s something to that!
