Dream Island
'Island of Loreto is located in Lake Iseo, north of Monte Isola, and is privately owned.
At the end of the fifteenth century the island was purchased by the Sisters of St. Clare of Brescia, who set up a convent. The structure was abandoned, however, already by 1580 when, during the visit of Carlo Borromeo is reminiscent of the presence of a hermit named Peter.
The island is recorded in the census map of Siviano, a village in the municipality of Monte Isola.
In 1696 Vincenzo Coronelli, Venetian geographer, remember the island as the property of the heirs of Count Alessandro Martinengo.
The writer Costanzo Ferrari, in his historical novel Tiburga Oldofredi published in 1850, environmental scenes on the island.
The historian Gabriele Rosa remembers the late nineteenth century that there were traces of "the ruins of the ramparts and two square turrets", probably the remains of ancient fortifications, and "the remains of chapel time in the east, as it was used before 1500".
In the nineteenth century it was owned by the Duchess Felicita Bevilacqua La Masa, and later, having by an act Oct. 9, 1900, was sold to the comm. Vincenzo Richeri, Captain in the Royal Navy and the husband of Mrs. Giannina Zirotti Sale Marasino.
In 1910, the Cav. Vincenzo Richieri built a neo-Gothic castle on the island around which he created a garden full of conifers, a marina and two turrets lighthouse.
It is like a dream island.
