Moonbow
Spent a short while gardening today, before and after a pleasant hour or so chatting with Malc, who came to drop off his mandolin for MrM to make a couple of adjustments.
Walked into Holmfirth twice with MrM. The first time, mid-afternoon, we went to see some of the Christmas celebrations - had a mooch round the Craft Fair, bought a few items from the Oxfam shop, and watched the parade. Bizarrely, it was a couple of dozen tractors decorated with tinsel and various other Christmassy (or not!) adornments, driving through the streets, many of them sounding their horns at full volume! I had intended to post the extra (the moon rising behind trees), taken as we waited for the procession, as the Blip. The tractors were too far away, and too fast, for photos!
The second time we walked in to town, to see one of MrM's colleagues playing drums in a band, MrM noticed the halo round the moon. Impossible to get a decent shot then as the were too many street lights. From the middle of town, it was barely noticeable at all, well illustrating the effect of light pollution on what we can see in the night sky. However, on the way home, much further out of the town centre, the halo was much more evident. Apparently it was visible all over England.
(The band wasn't bad, nor was the music, but we didn't stay long. The volume was more suitable for a large arena than a room in a pub. It was deafening...)
