Waking up can be hard
This is a remarkable photo in so many ways. It shows our collie Ben cuddling in quietly to our nephew who is waking up very slowly following a very late night. Up until we rescued Ben 6 months' ago he had never been inside a house let alone occasionally being allowed on furniture. As a so called failed sheep dog he had missed out on all the early socialisation such as being held by lots of people and being given toys to play with. He still can't walk on the kitchen floor without his legs slipping and he hangs on to any toy for grim death. Most noticeable though was hi aloofness. He looked to our other rescue collie, for affection and seemed to find it hard to trust any of the humans he had day to day contact with. This started to change about a month ago in respect of his immediate family but anyone outside this circle was ignored and distrusted. This is why his response to our nephew who he has only met a few times is such a breakthrough.
