Two local men Tommy Strike and William Toy.back in1871 on a misty morning, the porthleven fishing boat called the Desire was out at sea.unfortunately,the boat got cut in 2 by a much larger boat that day.Tommy Strike ,was the only person to survive the incident. WilliamToy was Tommy's friend who was a local poet and fisherman. Beautiful sunny morning and very mild.quite a few dog walkers on the beach.
