Poppy

I stopped to talk with the Master of the Freda Carless, a general cargo barge originally from Knottingley, which he bought from it's commercial use in Goole and converted into a 'live on' boat . This barge is the biggest live on boat on the Aire & Calder and weighs 250 tonnes.

He sold a 3 bedroom semi to buy it and now has more room to live in than he had in his house!

As we walked away dreaming of a life on the water I spotted this bumbly trying to land on a poppy, but the flower moved each time and he gamely tried from every angle. He reminded me of the Freda C, he found his bulk was his undoing in the precision task he had set for himself.

I would have loved to get closer but his aerodynamic battle was in a field the other side of a drainage ditch.
