Eyelashes

The dingy skipper is, well, a little bit dingy as butterflies go. But when seen from below, he does have the most amazing eyelashes. If you want to see a more traditional identification shot, there is one in the blipfolio. It is distinguishable by its brown dinginess, and the disproportionately large, broad head....and those eyelashes of course.

The skipper is here hanging on to a blade of false brome Brachypodium sylvaticum. He was very obliging once settled, refusing to budge, even when Gus nearly rolled on him. As with yesterday's blip of the roe deer, this was in the meadow at Heathwaite, my favourite place on the Knott at the moment.

The afternoon was spent on the allotment, and at last the first plants have gone in: the leeks that Arnside Simon's father gave us.
