My favourite building
Grey towers of Durham
Yet well I love thy mixed and massive piles
Half church of Gold, half castle 'gainst the Scot
And long to roam these venerable aisles
With progress stored of deeds long since forgot
Sir Walter Scott,
Prebends Bridge, Durham
Plently of photos today, some I'm even moderately proud of but as Durham hasn't yet featured in blip I had to start with one of the classic views. I may change my mind later and put a technically better photo up.
This is the view of the cathedral from Prebends Bridge directly above the carving of the above poem. A view that will always just say home to me. And a lovely day introducing K to the delights of Durham and having a Fathers Day meal before the long, long, long journey home. An intentional detour via uni to drop some library books; a rather less intentional detour via the delights of Bedford and Luton to avoid an accident on the A1, Home very late but it couldn't spoil what was an amazing weekend.
