On Frozen Pond…….

……….at Blackroot Pool in Sutton Park National Nature Reserve this afternoon. Temperature out of the sunshine, -1C.
We went for a walk after lunch before the sun sank below the horizon.
The light was beautifully sharp, highlighting the remaining leaves on the oaks and beech trees, making the white trunks of the silver birches stand out against the undercroft of the brown bracken and brambles, with the gorse in places still with its yellow flowers.
We scrunched along on the carpet of fallen leaves, now covered in thick frost in places, and the ruts in the muddy ground held frozen puddles.
So begins the first day of Advent, when we will begin our readings each day as we make the journey towards Christmas.
We are using a book called “Mary’s Voice”.Advent Reflections to Contemplate the Coming of Christ. By Amy Orr-Ewing.
