Heron in red valerian

Up early in the hope of an early Whalewatch experience but G received the inevitable cancellation txt :(  Time then for a walk along the coast to the seal colony.  A nice walk, though the uneven terrain was challenging at times (eh G??!).  There were a number of herons about and this one hunting amongst the red valerain (not fish, surely?!) looked rather lovely.  Lunch then time to get G to the station for her trip to Christchurch.  It was a fun few days despite the cancellations :D

Headed north myself hoping to get to Marfells beach for tonight's stop but a road closure further along the road meant that I stopped just 15 minutes north of Kaikoura instead.  No problem when in van-life mode.
