litl hikes

By litl

The morning after the day before. You may have seen reports from Cumbria on the television and web today.

I went out with a ruler . . . 6 inches of snow on the paths, 8 inches on the car roof and 9 on the back lawn. I wasn’t walking across the lawn to fill the seed feeder and certainly not attempting to get to the fat ball feeder or the ground one which I put under the garden bench yesterday. I cleared a square at the end of the back garden path and put seed there.

Later a walk to Waterhead. The first hundred yards were hard work in deep snow, the next hundred easier as more people had walked down the road (with one preferring skis). Then 2 men were busy with shovels and had cleared two tracks for car wheels. Once down the hill the snow on the footpath was compacted and easy to walk on.

There’s another Waterhead photo in extras. Also a collage with photos from the footpath as I walked there and back, passing many cars (and a bus) that were abandoned yesterday on the roadside and pavements.
