Life through my eyes

Let sleeping dogs lie!

Elf and Safety were very quiet last night. Their afternoon encounter had spooked them and to add insult to injury for them Beau had a sleepover last night as Jo had gone to a Christmas party.

He duly snuggled up at my feet under the duvet, then got hot, and then woke me about 02:00 trying to look out of the window. We had to go down and check and he was on guard. When I checked the ring camera this morning he had obviously heard the people that had come into our cal-de-sac. Snuggled up again and next time I woke up he'd obviously tried to get under the covers only to have nosed it all to the end so just my feet and his nose were covered! All snuggled up again and he was at the bottom of the bed under the covers until just before 07:00 when there was a bump. He had rolled out the bottom of the bed and a bemused head appeared at the end of the bed. Although that all sounds disruptive I actually slept well with him cuddled up alongside me.

He was pretty sleepy when he was here this afternoon so Elf and Safety felt more confident.

Elf, Safety whispered.

Yes Safety.

You know how Mrs P always told us to keep out of mischief, and she used to say things like let sleeping dogs lie.

I remember, but why did she say that Safety?

We can investigate as the big doggy is back, and he's curled up asleep. If we climb along the stair openings we can use Mrs P's Christmas wall hanging to abseil from.

I'm not sure Safety, what if he wakes up? We nearly got eaten yesterday.

But how else can we find out why they have to be let lie? Come on Elf.

OK, said Elf with resignation, but you can go down first!

So off they climbed and just as Safety was preparing to drop down into Beau's basket he heard them.

Just in the nick of time Elf pulled Safety back from the jaws of disaster and off they scampered back to their cubby hole. I can still hear Elf telling Safety that's why sleeping dogs are left to lie!
