A family day
We visited my cousin, Rita, and her family in Worthing on Sunday. Actually she's my second cousin (as she told me, having done a lot of work on our family tree). We share the same great grandparents - on the paternal side for me and maternal side for Rita. Our great grandparents were German. They met and married in London in 1884 and had 12 children, five of whom died in infancy and another was killed, aged 21, on New Year's Day, when serving with the Royal Engineers in the First World War. My own grandfather, a cabinet maker by trade, served with the Royal Flying Corps. The extra photo, which I hadn't seen before, shows my great grandparents with my grandfather and great aunt (Rita's grandmother) between them. Fascinating. It was a great day that reminded me of the importance of maintaining family connections. The main photo shows the stained glass panels on Rita's front door. They live in a large, atmospheric house built in the 1890s.
