Advent at the Orchard

What a beautiful crisp day we had for our open day at the community orchard and many folk of all ages came along and enjoyed the  activities, the food and the socialising. I was kept busy warming the homemade waffles. We had two different types on offer; the ones in the photo are a Norwegian recipe and we also had Dutch waffles, both being produced by orchard supporters having connections with these countries. We had a super fire pit where marshmallows were being toasted and folk gathered to enjoy the warmth. The children had a Christmas treasure hunt to solve and any one could have a go at decorating a willow wreath, a Yule log or a ginger biscuit. There was also a delicious spiced hot fruit punch and slices of freshly baked pizza from the mobile pizza van. To crown it all, two of our younger volunteers constructed a living willow dome and twisting tunnel on the top of a small hill in the centre of the orchard. What a wonderful gift which we will enjoy as it develops. (Extra)
