Iolaire Memorial

The memorial to one of the worst maritime accidents in British waters in peacetime stands on the edge of Stornoway harbour, 2 miles south of the town. It commemorates the drowning of 201 sailors, the majority from the island, in the early hours of 1st January 1919.
