Lurking in the long grass

The Demoiselle and the photographer.

I alluded to the fact the Banded Demoiselle were inflight on the park yesterday and I manfully set off early to work armed with 20D and macro lens to have a session before the beasties got too warm and impossible to photograph. They were still very flighty and it took a good few attempts to get one that would stay still. I've spent 12 years walking the park regularly and initially the Demoiselle were few in number. Over the years the numbers have grown and the river through the park is a hotspot. It is probably a combination of factors but mainly down to the improved water quality. The grass was very wet with dew and my shoes and trousers were a tad damp on return to the office. In fact I looked like I have been in the River Lostock on the park. I've images of them from all angles so I thought I'd try for a back lit but not silhouette shot. My mission this year is to get a mating and ovipositing shot to complete my set of life cycle shots.

Thanks to all those who posted the kind comments on my 730 shot yesterday. It has taken me long enough.
