The Heart of a Damsel
I was rudely awoken this morning by the sound of nearby chainsaws, so I hopped out of bed to look out of the window. I was very distressed to see workmen chopping away at the hedge at the end of our garden - the one that I have been watching the robin nipping in and out of !!! No time to get dressed, so I did the 'batty old bag shouting out of the window complete with night attire and bed-head' routine. It didn't work as the chainsaws were too loud, I contemplated rushing out into the garden in said state of undress but decided I had probably frightened enough wildlife already. I got myself dressed and was too upset to eat my breakfast, so I went off to seek sanctuary at the local nature reserve. It was lovely and quiet and I soon became engrossed watching the multitude of insects. I eventually came home when I got hungry to find that the hedge had only really been trimmed, so not too bad but I just hope the baby robins survived the ordeal.
I realise the neighbours had every right to trim their own hedge but I thought everybody knew that it should be done when nesting is over - some people are so stupid!!!
