Now David, who lives in a garden like this?
My wife took todays blip whilst meandering in Barnes Park, in sunny Sunderland.
Sunderland City Council successfully secured funding from Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund Parks for People, for Barnes Park, in 2009. With the help from County Durham Environmental Trust, Play Pathfinder and the Local Transport Plan the project totalled £3.6 million.
Work commenced on the project in October 2009 and was completed in 2011. Improvements to the park included two new play areas, the creation of a sensory garden, new bridges over the stream and lake, building of a grand staircase, amphitheatre style seating around the refurbished bandstand and a specialist changing places room. Heritage features within
the park were also included in the project. The gates, railings, cannon and bandstand were all renovated along with replacement gates being made for the main entrance at Durham Road.
