Howden Minster.
What a glorious day for a drive over to East Yorkshire for our Christmas lunch at the Star at Sancton. We certainly didn’t mind the 2C temperature.
First stop Howden to visit the butchers for some pheasants and venison burgers, only to find they close on a Wednesday!
However there is an alternative butcher, but he didn’t have any pheasants, but we bought some venison, and also calves liver, which I find difficult to get hold of.
Then a visit to the cheese and wine shop where purchases were made.
Spotted some large stems of sprouts at the greengrocers so bought one of those, and then I had a look round a delightful gift shop where I bought a gift for my sister, and picked up some lovely pine cones that they were giving away for free.
I do like Howden. Wish it were nearer to us.
On to The Star and a delicious lunch.
Always so difficult to choose from their wonderful menu. ( see extra)
MrC had the soup and then traditional turkey and Christmas pud.
I chose the terrine, followed by the hake, and then Clementine polenta cake.
Such fantastic value for £35 each.
An absolute gem of a place. So warm and friendly. Service, food, atmosphere all first class. Not surprised the place was full and is booked up now until Christmas.
Back home after a good journey, even though the sun was a bit of a problem going.
Cup of tea, and feet up.
Should sleep well but may nod off before that!
Collage of Howden and the Welcome to the Star. Extra the menu.
Mystery of the cheese solved!
We got a phone call at tea time yesterday from our eldest grandson ( Jude and Leo’s dad) the cheese was an early Christmas present from them. He put it through the letter box on Monday evening, and forgot to write on who it was from.
K saw my blip in the afternoon and they had a real laugh!
