G.O.A.T.

(Hate the term, but it applies here!)

#12 Christine Sinclair, and Australia’s goalie, await a corner kick.

Christine Sinclair was sent into retirement by over 42 000 fans at ‘Christine Sinclair’ Place last night. (Second largest crowd at a sporting event, in Canada, this year.)
- 24 seasons on the National Team.
- 6 World Cups
- 4 time Olympian
- all-time FIFA leading goal scorer, regardless of gender.
-OC and OBC, amongst countlless other honours.

But her biggest accomplishment, and the main reason she is retiring before the next Olympic Games is, she has inspired and mentored a whole generation of Canadian girls to participate in sports. They are now ready to take over, and she can now stand aside and support them in other ways. At least six members of last night’s squad were not born when she played her first Sr. National game!!

Not to be overlooked, Sinclair’s longtime teammate of over 200 games, Sophie Schmidt played her last game and subbed in for her early in the second half.

Hard to get great shots in such a large venue. We thought we might get a closeup of players taking a corner kick, but there were none in our corner.

Extra 1- clockwise from top left.
Game face, Sophie Schmidt smiling to the crowd while warming up, acknowledging the crowd for the last time, Schmidt subbing for Sinclair.
Extra 2- hug from the coach, relief, Science World lit up like a soccer ball,, Canada wins.
