Puff!

Pity the poor puffball,
the saddest mushroom of them all.
No pores, no gills, no cap. no stem –
nothing but a simple ball –
A mass of dusty spores is all –
They know that when they’re found,
They’re gonna get kicked around.....

From Pity the Poor Pyffball by Dana Richter

An abysmal day weatherwise after two days of crisp cold sunshine. It hasn't got light and it hasn't stopped raining, real wet stuff too. A very quick yomp around the garden and I have become riveted by these puffballs - if you kick them (gently) they puff and then go straight back to the way they were, so elastic and hardy. Difficult to blip and kick at the same time. There's even a video about a professor doing the same thing! Life's little curiosities.

A very interesting chat with the Professor of Holy Wells in Tennessee last night - here's a date for your diaries Sacred Waters : a holy well conference being held in Buxton June 30- July 3rd next year. See, it's not just me!
