Read all about it!
This afternoon I joined my daughter to see little Miss B play the part of the donkey, travelling to Bethlehem with Mary and Joseph, in their school nativity play. The performance involved Reception and Year 1 children - so 4-to-6-year-olds. It was an absolute joy.
Far more than a simple nativity play - it was a mini-musical, called Angel Express - with a number of rousing songs telling the traditional story in a novel way. It included much humour - a choir of angels rehearsing for the Big Event, with a conductor who told them they needed to practise more; a newspaper boy waving the Angel Express newspaper and calling 'Read all about it' at intervals. And when the star reaches the stable, the angel choir are in perfect voice. Amazing that such little ones can sing badly and then beautifully as the script demands! So impressed by this little village school!
Our little donkey turned her back on the audience, waving her ears, when I grabbed this shot - rather grainy as it's on zoom in the school hall. I cannot share more on social media, but felt safe with this solo back view just of my grand-daughter.
Yesterday, the children performed their show to the rest of the school and late afternoon today she was returning for a third performance, where her daddy and Granny B would be in the audience.
I think there will be a lot of yawns from the little actors - not from boredom, just tiredness. All credit to the school for putting on quite a demanding show and building on the talent - and building up confidence - in their children.
