106

We have celebrated Finland's 106th Independence Day today. It's a bank holiday, so we had a slow morning and morning sauna. I had lovely walk with Peetu in the snowy woods. Leevi came over in the evening, he and hubby prepared us Raclette dinner. The tradition is to light two blue-white candles next to a window at 18:00. TV broadcast from the annual ball at the Presidential Palace was also in our agenda, of course.

President Niinistö and his spouse, Jenni Haukio, host the reception for the final time. Voting for Niinistö’s successor begins just over a month from now.

The TV and online broadcast of the gala is typically Finland's most-watched media event of the year, sometimes attracting more than 2.5 million viewers.
