River Yealm in flood

After a night of heavy rain there was a brief clearance this morning before monsoon conditions returned until late afternoon. After spending the day finishing off Christmas cards and letters and making a fruit cake once the rain stopped I set off for the Post Office only to find my way  blocked by huge puddles where the river had overflowed. Fortunately I was able to get around them and complete the posting. A view down river from the bridge gives an impression of the speed of the flow and where on the right side it had invaded some gardens. The extra shows the overflow into an adjacent lane flooded to a good couple of feet meaning that some houses were cut off temporarily, although this time, they were not at risk.
