Wilhelmine
Cobelfret is a Belgian company which has a number of ro ro cargo ships sailing regularly between Europe and the UK; one or two or more a day sail up/down the River Thames. All the ships seem to have names ending in ‘ine’ – this one is Wilhelmine. It’s heading to Dagenham and is clearly carrying vehicles, so probably Fords. Cobelfret has its own container terminal and another car depot at Stone near Dartford, which lands Mercedes.
The wind turbines (there are 2 more, out of shot) provide power to Tilbury Docks, the outer edge of which is behind the ship. The two electricity pylons are twins and straddle the river, one on the Kent bank at Swanscombe Marshes, the other in Essex at West Thurrock. They’re 623 feet tall and the highest in the UK.
The ‘extra’ is a farty-arty shot of said Mercedes cars (plus some vans) at Stone, about 10 miles upriver from Gravesend. Taken with a Nikon D7000 plus the same Tamron 70-300mm used on the main pic. Taken 4 February 2014.
