Friday forgetfulness
Forgot to get a blip other than the new reading material. Also forgot to post it so am playing catch up now!
Friday took me to the eye clinic regarding my cataract which needs removing - but this was only the consultation with the specialist. I was hanging about a lot, waiting but also I was surprised that after the rudimentary eye test they did a scan and after that I had to wait again before going for a different scan then when I got in to see Mr Cota he wanted another scan done in there. When he called me around the screen to show me something I was a little worried at what he had found. Apparently I have Fuchs' Dystrophy which I'd never heard of and had to look up. He said that it was hereditary but I don't know anyone else in my family with it now or in the past. This he said may not mean they didn't have it, the condition was not diagnosed in years gone by, people just went blind.
Great, that's so reassuring!
Apparently it affects the cornea and damages it to varying degrees and cataract surgery may make it worse and it may not - if it makes it worse I may need a corneal transplant but the cataract needs removing because it has affected my eyesight such a lot already. He has put me on the waiting list and I was shocked so I couldn't think of the right questions to ask, like how long is the waiting list and what are my chances of a corneal transplant at age 73!
Both eyes are affected by this to the same degree (20%) but I only need the one cataract removing at present. I hope it's soon.
I suppose this is the joy of getting old, everything starts to fail!
I refuse to feel down about it and hope for the best. It could be worse.
