Book Graveyard
Got to spend some time with my eldest today.
Drove up to Meigle to where the music camp is and signed him out for the afternoon.
After a wee aimless drive in the beautiful countryside we set off on a walk.
One of the wrong turns we took led us under an old railway bridge where some fly-tipping had been taking place.
In addition to a Sony Playstation controller, a brand new petrol cap and assorted debris, we came across an old book. It had obviously been there for some time as there were baby snails hatching in between some of the pages we prised open. The cover was long destroyed but we spent some minutes gently easing pages open to try to figure out what the book was. Eventually we decided it may have been a historical text of some sort. Very intriguing!
This set the conversation to periods in history when books have been destroyed for religious or "cultural" reasons. It was a great chat. Calum loves books as much as I do and spending time with my newly teenaged son discussing the sacrilege of destroying the written word made me so proud to be related to him!
Teenagers are actually very interesting creatures.....and then we went for pizza! The best food he has had all week apparently!!!
