Chainsaw
Henry has a smallholding in the village, a quite delightful plot of land extending from the back of his house about 300m. He planted these trees eight years ago and is selling them this year for Christmas. We have chosen ours and I collected it today.
Henry is quite philanthropic when it comes to trees: he plants them for pleasure on his land and is about to pull up some willows that are over thirty years old – before planting more. He already has some silver birches at the "whip" stage as well as a plantation of them from forty years ago.
What was it someone said? "The best time to plant a tree is ten years ago . . ." or something like that.
Which reminds me of this book. We need trees.
