Between rocks and steep places
Hiking day with three hiking friends. We headed to the mountains at Table Rock State Park to hike a portion of the Palmetto Trail. This was a completely new area for me to hike and WOOOH..my flat land legs really said "What is happening to me?!!!!"
The trail was rocky, rooty, and steep. The downhills were as tough as the uphills. Sometimes we had to walk on the skinniest trail between the hillside and the drop off. The portion that went up to the tall waterfall was a scramble over rocks and the downhill was just as hard. We all decided we were part mountain goat! The waterfall was really pretty though and worth the trip.
After we continued from the waterfall the trail was mostly switchbacks and we climbed up to the top. The second portion of the trail was mostly on an old road bed (partlally downhill and some flat places but it also had some steep places. We had to rock hop across creeks twice.
It was really a great adventure!! Perfect cool weather so not too much sweating. The hiking friends were all about my age (one a little younger) so we felt really accomplished that we were able to complete this hike.
The shorter waterfall was one along the road that we stopped at on the way home. No hiking but we are ready to try this spot in the mountains after the new year.
We may not be moving too quickly tomorrow.
