Cathedral
Anther gloomy damp day. My shot of Winchester Cathedral shows the only slightly brighter moment of the day, so I was lucky to catch it.
This view of it is one I've always loved, partly because it shows you how very wonky the old building has become. It was built right on the water table and the east end (sticking out forward, right of shot) started sinking so badly 100 years ago the whole building nearly broke its back and was only saved by the work of a diver called William Walker, who lowered sacks of cement under all the walls. (And yes, for those of you who know what it looks like at the moment, I have wiped out the very unattractive line of WCs currently stuck in front of the south transept for use of visitors to the Christmas Market).
I also liked this in mono, so have included it in Extras, plus an interior shot of the north transept ceiling.
Many thanks to BobsBlips for hosting today's WidWed on the subject of 'Architecture'. And have a good evening, all xx
