The Sock Mill

During my Kendal bridge project a few weeks ago I learned that E W THompsons started making hosiery in Bridge Mills in 1878. Here is Bridge Mills, it was locally called "the sock mill" . Sock making ceased in the 1980s.  It's now a small business centre. Sock making complemented the shoe making business that was big in Kendal. remember K shoes. That's what the K stood  for.
