A social day
We had breakfast at a favourite café overlooking the harbour then caught a bus to Eastridge Shopping Centre where we met ten friends from our Tuesday morning walking group. It was so nice to see them again and we had a very enjoyable two hours chatting and catching up on all the news. We caught a bus back into the city and had a wander around the Wynyard Quarter and North Wharf. Three of the yachts taking part in the Ocean Globe Race (formerly the Whitbread) that have finished the leg from Cape Town to Auckland were moored near North Wharf. There was also a super yacht, Arctic P, which can take 12 guests. We had a quick bite and a coffee before returning to the hotel to relax for an hour before catching a bus over to the North Shore to visit the husband of my friend who died in early October. He has motor neurone disease but an indomitable spirit and a determination to keep going.
After saying goodbye to L we caught a bus to the restaurant we were booked into for dinner, or so I thought. I hadn’t realised there were two Lake Roads, one in Northcote and one in Takapuna/Hauraki. It was quite frustrating, but we got there eventually and went next door for a thirst-quenching drink. We sat down at the table at 6:30pm and our friends arrived shortly after. We had a very enjoyable evening. The owner of the restaurant is also from the Eastridge walking group and she had a little Christmas present for us. She is such a lovely lady and her partner is a very nice man. After dinner our friends dropped us back at the hotel, which was very kind.
We are feeling somewhat tired, but happy.
The beautiful electricity box was across the road from the restaurant and the skeleton was in the window of a town house near to the care home where our friend lives. The second extra shows the three yachts from the Ocean Globe Race, and the super yacht Arctic P.
I’m lagging behind with comments and checking in on journals.
