Amateur Photographer
I apologise in advance for blowing my own trumpet! But one of my photos is in the 22nd June edition of Amateur Photographer. It's the top photo in this iPad copy "The Princess Elizabeth salutes Queen Elizabeth". It was Commended in the Network Rail section of the 2012 Landscape Photographer of the Year. A selection of the winning photos is touring large railway stations round the country at the moment. My photo wasn't selected to tour, but it has been published in this article in AP.
Some of you have seen this photo before, but, for those who haven't, it was taken at the start of the Queen's Royal River Pageant last June. You may remember that it was a cold, windy, rainy day. A friend had invited us to watch the pageant from the balcony of her flat that looked over the river, where we froze. We were chatting when I suddenly noticed this train on the bridge. By the time I got my camera out, it had sounded its hooter and there was a great plume of smoke billowing in the air. It was the signal for the start of the pageant at the moment that the Queen's launch came under the bridge - that's the little boat in the centre. You can see the first few hundred boats massing in the distance under the bridge. What you can't see is the millions of people lining the river banks who started cheering! As the caption says, it was a thrilling and emotional moment...
