HOW ABOUT THAT?
Well, imagine that! I've been mentioning the lack of flowers around here for Flower Friday.......but look what I found?

This Thanksgiving Cactus (Schlumbergera truncata) has been in the family for more than 90 years. It was originally my grandmother's plant; my mother inherited it from her at her death and I inherited it from my mother at her death. Since I'm the biologist in the family....the care and feeding of this beauty fell to me by default.

This plant was BIG! I mean, really BIG! It just about took over the living room and I was running out of room to pot it. So I made some cuttings, stuck them in an old mason jar, threw in a handful of gravel for a strong base and added some water. It wasn't long before roots formed off the ends of the leaves and shortly after that, BUDS! Well, the buds have opened up and I will soon repot the cuttings into an acceptable container.
~
It blooms very reliably from late October through nearly March....then the buds cease appearing. This plant is already spoken for after I go to fish that big trout stream in the sky.....and not my wife. She is a real black thumb when it comes to plant care. My brother will get it. I suspect it will be passed farther down the family line after my bro joins me in that trout stream eternal.
