Lego-sprog and I took a trip on The Polar Express this afternoon. In the book and movie, the train is an American style steam locomotive hauling Pullman-esque carriages. In reality the train was ex BR mk2 carriages topped and tailed by West Coast Railways owned class 47 diesel locomotives.
