Waterloo
Yesterday our neighbours asked us if we still had water, we did, but it is always the sign of troubled waters ahead... we're at the end of 4 cottages, the private water supply that occasionally stops but we are usually last to run out. 6 years ago we prepared for that with bigger and double cold water tanks which has often saved us, but often we might empty the tanks before we realise the water is off. This time we got an early heads up, so we've been rationing shower and water usage to keep as much as we can and for now it is working.
It seems all the extra rainfall this past week has overwhelmed the system and blocked a higher feeder tank. So in addition to having to keep the farm around us running, the farmer has to unblock and clean the higher tank and clean the feeder tank as well. For now it is expected to return tomorrow but we're keeping an eye on the tanks for now. While not having drinking and kitchen water is a pain, not having water for a shower and toilet is tough so fingers crossed. The shower takes almost a minute for the hot water to come out, so this is us collecting the cold water before the hot water comes out to use for the toilet and avoid wasting it.
It all seems quite third world, but it's happened several times over the past 27 years so we're kind of prepared for it... with double tanks! Fingers crossed...
In other news, and totally unrelated to the above, we went to see the film Napoleon tonight, picking Ms H up from work. My knowledge of him and France's history is limited... but it came to the Battle Of Waterloo... and I'm thinking, oh yeah, Abba... what did they say.. they said something about Napoleon, then it came... "At Waterloo, Napoleon did surrender"... ok we're getting near to the end of the 3 hour film then, incidently without any toilet breaks! We enjoyed it, what a crazy history, what battle scenes, and yet, this world ain't so different is it... 200 years of progress huh!
And there you have it, a photo of water coming out of the shower with the bucket filling for the loo. I had not made the connection before the film... so it was meant be, no?
