Spoor of the Bookworm

Beware!

Even without the helpful sign there was something ...disconcerting about this chap sitting motionless on his anchored boat. He should have looked the very image of relaxed river pootling, stripped off in the muggy humidity of the day, going nowhere as the river traffic chugged past him....and yet...There was a palpable tension about him, the most unrelaxed, coiled spring of a lounger I can remember encountering, way beyond the usual British discomfort with shirtless loitering. A river pirate perhaps?

There were several images to choose from today . While Catie was at college I drove down to Culham lock instead of waiting for her and took Jake for a walk along the towpath. We walked the length of Culham Cut and a couple of hundred yards along the main channel of the Thames. Coots and dragonflies a plenty, insects buzzing past, bullocks cooling their hooves in the shallows ...and this chap anchored out in midstream...

Today was Catie's last class at college, tomorrow is her final exam...and then her school days are over. I feel very strange all of a sudden.
