Open White Helleborine flower
I've been surveying orchids at the nature reserve today. It is a very good year for most species. In particular, there are so many White Helleborines that many are escaping the ravages of rabbits and muntjac deer and getting to maturity. I came across a group in the very deep shade of a large beech tree that were around 35-40 cm tall with 7 or 8 flowers, including some fully open. This is not something we see often. You can see the rich yellow in the mouth of the flower that gives it the common name of Poached Egg Plant.
