Rohrpost

I learned a new thing today: on the way home I spotted this sign outside the rather pretty former post office on Oranienburger. Berlin had a pneumatic tube system between 1865 and 1963 in West Berlin and 1976 in East Berlin. I am totally fascinated by them. I spotted the tubes in the catacombs next to our machine room but I didn't realise there used to be an extensive system that was used to deliver telegrams.
