Pleach

With the prospect of reasonable weather for a change, we decided to take the bus and have a short walk around North Berwick.  I had heard of the devastation due to Storm Babet a few weeks ago but was very surprised to see the damage to the steps leading onto West Bay beach and how the buried sewer pipe is now exposed with at least 50 centimetres of its sand covering it having been washed away.  The slipway for the lifeboat is being rebuilt and work is being done on the roof of one of the harbour buildings but the worst damage is the huge breach in the harbour wall. That part is at least 200 years old and the sea has left a five-metre wide (16ft) gap and benches overturned. Fortunately the boat that takes tourists out to Bass Rock was undamaged but it will take an enormous amount of money to repair.  The main picture is of the colourful doors and kayaks in the storage area which was once the openair swimming pool.
