Anni Mamundi

Solstice…

… At Gorton Monastery.

There’s a lot of special architecture here in this beautiful space. E.W. Pugin designed it so that the light falls at different times exactly where he meant it to be.

The wind thundered and reverberated down the nave today, in a quite unearthly way, as if Kodo drummers themselves were performing in the ceiling.
Candles flickered for meditation and before I closed my eyes to concentrate I looked up and saw this remarkable sight.
Not wanting to take out my phone at that moment, I thought, ‘well. Never mind. I was so lucky to see the sun fall like that upon the crown on this day’.
But then the service ended.
And, still, the sun was in the exact right place.

So I’m able to share it with you after all.
