An Invitation To The Castle
It was a busy day today: church Homegroup this morning, a trip with The B-I-L to a garden centre this afternoon, a quick meal then a walk up the road to the castle, finally more wine and mince pies in the Rectory. Whew!
The blip is of our local castle. The new inhabitants invited the village up for wine and mince pies to explain their business plans. The place was packed. A lot of villagers will never have been in the castle before. I used to go up for school governors' meetings. By Easter they hope to have a café and restaurant open and have the estate open to the public.
A structure was first built here in 1069 replace by a stone building in 1129. Since 1571 it has been owned by the Howard family. One of whom still lives in the grounds. The contents were sold a few years ago and the property was put in the hands of a letting agency at £10,000 pcm. Gosh that's and awful lot of teas and coffees to sell!
