Marathon #2 Edinburgh MoonWalk
4 short weeks ago we walked the London MoonWalk (a midnight powerwalking marathon, in decorated bras to raise money for breast cancer research and care). Today we are on to the second part of our 3 Land Challenge, the Edinburgh MoonWalk.
Typically, now I no longer live in Leith the Moonwalk starts there! Thankfully my kind ex-flatmate let us pop around and use their flat to get ready and leave stuff there over night. We headed over to Moonwalk city around 9pm. Wandered in and saw a sea of hi-viz caps. We were just in time to step into the back of a 3 Land Challenge group photo! We got Greig bra'd up and then went to grab some food. The tent (which was drastically smaller than other years due to council issues) was pretty noisy so we sat outside on the grass for a while.
We ran into one of Greig's friends as we re-entered the tent. She was walking alone on the half marathon so we walked with her until the route split. Normally I post the start line photo for these events but this is different. As part of the 3 Land Challenge (3 moonwalks in 5 weeks in 3 different countries) we got to go up on stage whilst Nina (the charity founder) talked about what we were doing. So here it is, not great but a shot from the stage. There was a bit of a mess up with timings for going on stage. We headed over for 10pm, stood around backstage and then were asked to come back at 10:30pm. On our second trip to the stage we ran into two friends who were photographing the finish line.
After going up on stage there was a minute's silence and then warm up before heading to the start line. We crossed the start line at 11:37pm. As we headed past the Persevere Pub on Easter Road we noticed two lady police officers outside. At that point a couple of men stumbled out of the pub, raised a hand to point and opened their mouths to shout when the police stepped in to talk to them.
