This'n'That

Source of listening pleasure

I've been thinking about all the things that the smart phones have replaced. How many people still have a combination radio, tape deck and CD player? This one is still in great shape but doesn't get used very often because it isn't in a location where we spend much time. We still have lots of tapes and CDs - might blip some of those for the series.
I got a text from Renata this morning asking if we got the parcel that she sent. We hadn't, so she checked the tracking number and found out that a notice card had been delivered to our mailbox yesterday and the parcel was available for pick up. She didn't know if it was at the Ganges PO or the Fulford PO. G and I had checked the mailbox yesterday, and it was later in the afternoon when G did. Nothing. The time that our mail is delivered is erratic, so I thought I'd better go down this morning to check. Left the house just after 9am because I wanted to beat the ferry traffic. The card was in the mailbox and there was a red scribble on it that might have said Fulford. I headed down to the village - but the post office there doesn't open until 10:00.  G had asked me to pick up a stollen at the bakery in Ganges if I did have to go to town, so I decided to head up and check at the PO there.
Sure enough, the parcel was at Fulford, so got the stollen and headed back down to the village, about 10 minutes before the office was going to open. As I was waiting, a man and his daughter came along. They had found a passport in the middle of the road on their walk! We all thought that the owner was likely on the ferry that left at 9:50. The man searched the name on the passport in social media and found out that the young owner was visiting here and was from Ontario. When the woman arrived to open the office, he showed her the passport and she said she'd do what she could to notify someone on the ferry who might be able to let the young owner know. But then...she recognized his last name, phoned the person on the island with the same name, and sure enough, it was a relative! The relative said that the owner was returning on the 1:00 ferry and would pick up the passport. Amazing!  Another advantage of living on a small island where people kick in to help others.
So I did end up going to town for the 4th day in a row.  :-)
There was a set of keys left on the ledge of the office porch. The woman took those inside and hopefully the owner of them returned to pick them up!
